Research Fellow – Science of Learning (Education Centre)

About the role

The National Institute of Education (NIE) seeks a Research Fellow to join the Science of Learning in Education Centre on an 8‑month renewable contract. The fellow will contribute to the Singapore Longitudinal Cohort Study (SG‑LCS) Phase 1, investigating how secondary students’ peer relationships evolve and affect academic, motivational, social and emotional outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement longitudinal data collection protocols across secondary schools.
• Conduct social network analysis using RSIENA to map peer relationships.
• Perform quantitative data processing and statistical modelling with SPSS, R, and structural equation modelling tools (MPLUS/AMOS).
• Analyse the influence of family, school climate and structural factors on student outcomes.
• Prepare research reports, academic papers and presentations for internal and external audiences.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members and supervise junior staff as needed.

Required profile

• PhD (or Master’s) in Data Science, Education, Psychology, Social Sciences or related field.
• Strong interest in education research and adolescent development.
• Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Required skills

• Social network analysis with RSIENA.
• Quantitative data analysis using SPSS and R.
• Longitudinal data analysis and structural equation modelling (MPLUS, AMOS, or R).
