Research Fellow (Econometrics and Machine Learning)

About the role

The Economics Programme in NTU’s School of Social Sciences is hiring a Research Fellow to develop reliable instrumental variable (IV) estimation and inference methods, as well as machine‑learning algorithms for weak instruments, high‑dimensional settings, and clustered data.

Key responsibilities

• Develop econometric theory for weak‑identification‑robust tests, bootstrap methods, estimator combinations, and leave‑cluster‑out bias correction.
• Implement simulations and conduct empirical analyses of import competition, education, and pre‑trial decisions using IV regressions.
• Prepare reproducible code, research papers, technical appendices, and presentations in collaboration with the project team.

Required profile

• PhD in Economics, Econometrics, Statistics, or a closely related field by the appointment start date.
• Strong background in econometric theory, probability, statistics, and research on IV methods, causal inference, and machine learning.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills; prior post‑doctoral experience is desirable.

Required skills

• Proficiency in R, Python, MATLAB, or Julia for simulations and data analysis.
