Senior Clinical Biochemistry Consultant – Lead Laboratory

About the role

We are seeking a senior consultant to establish and lead the Clinical Biochemistry laboratory at the upcoming Tengah General and Community Hospital. The role combines clinical governance, laboratory design, and team leadership to deliver high‑quality biochemical testing services.

Key responsibilities

• Assume full clinical governance and regulatory accountability under the Healthcare Services Act.
• Commission and operationalise the Clinical Biochemistry laboratory, including LIS implementation and POCT governance.
• Design the test menu, workflows, and quality‑safety framework.
• Chair the Laboratory Quality Committee and drive a comprehensive safety programme.
• Lead preparation for ISO 15189 and CAP accreditation.
• Recruit, supervise, and develop a multidisciplinary laboratory team.
• Provide expert clinical advice on test selection, interpretation and complex biochemistry cases.

Required profile

• MBBS degree registrable with the Singapore Medical Council.
• FRCPath, FRCPA or equivalent specialist qualification.
• Minimum 5 years post‑fellowship consultant experience in Clinical Biochemistry.
• Proven experience in laboratory management, quality, safety, governance and accreditation.
• Experience commissioning or significantly developing a clinical laboratory, including automation.
• Familiarity with Singapore/Asia‑Pacific regulatory environment.
