Senior Pharmacist (Contract)

About the role

The Senior Pharmacist will ensure safe, efficient and timely dispensing of medicines within NUH. Working closely with physicians and pharmacy staff, the role combines clinical review, patient counseling and supervision of pharmacy operations.

Key responsibilities

• Review medication orders to verify correct dosage, avoid overdoses and prevent toxic reactions.
• Fill prescriptions as ordered by attending physicians and explain usage directions to patients.
• Provide drug‑interaction, adverse‑reaction and contraindication information to prescribers and other health professionals.
• Maintain accurate inventory of medications and supplies, ensuring proper storage, security and shelf‑life compliance.
• Implement pharmacy policies, regulatory standards and conduct regular inspections of drug storage areas.
• Oversee pharmacy assistants, technicians and purchasing officers, reviewing their work and ensuring quality.
• Maintain comprehensive records for drug ordering, storage and distribution in line with legal and accreditation requirements.
• Participate in pharmacy education, deliver lectures, mentor pre‑registration pharmacists and contribute to professional publications.
• Represent the pharmacy on committees and assist in developing new services or pilot schemes.

Required profile

• Registered pharmacist with experience in hospital pharmacy settings.
• Ability to interpret and clarify ambiguous or illegible prescriptions.
• Strong knowledge of drug interactions, adverse reactions and contraindications.
• Experience supervising pharmacy support staff and managing inventory.
• Familiarity with pharmacy regulations, accreditation standards and hospital policies.
