Staff Data Engineer

About the role

Airwallex, the AI-native financial operating system used by more than 675,000 businesses, is hiring a Staff Data Engineer for its Knowledge Platform team in Singapore. The team builds the foundational data and AI/ML infrastructure that powers the company, handling the entire data and AI/ML lifecycle with safety and governance. The role is based in Singapore.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build scalable data pipelines and data models that power critical use cases across the Knowledge Platform and business domains.
• Partner with engineering and cross-functional stakeholders to turn ambiguous data needs into reliable, well-structured solutions.
• Own projects end to end, from design to performance, monitoring and ongoing improvements in data quality and reliability.
• Design and implement robust, scalable data models for business intelligence, machine learning and operations, using appropriate schemas (star, snowflake, normalized or denormalized) and promoting Single Source of Truth.
• Maintain data consistency, traceability and quality across multiple data sources.
• Build and maintain batch and streaming ETL pipelines, working with Data Platform Engineers and Product Managers to resolve data issues; distributed or multi-datacenter experience is a bonus.
• Contribute to data governance strategies, policies and standards, covering quality, stewardship, metadata, master data, privacy/security and lifecycle.
• Understand AI and explore how data engineering and AI can work together.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Systems, Finance, Mathematics or a related field.
• At least 7 years of proven experience designing and implementing ETL pipelines, with a strong grasp of the strategies and processes behind scalable, reliable pipelines.
• Experience with streaming data pipelines or real-time processing technologies such as Apache Kafka or Apache Flink.
• Knowledge of data governance practices and regulatory requirements in the financial industry.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work with globally distributed teams.

• Preferred: scripting languages such as Python or R, and experience in fintech or payment systems
