WeChat Backend Engineer Intern

About the role

WeChat is a leading mobile platform with over 1.3 billion active users worldwide, connecting people, services and businesses. This paid internship within the Singapore operations team lets you work alongside senior-level team members on developing new projects and features from start to finish. It lasts at least three months and gives hands-on experience in software development while learning the company's values and principles. Successful interns are invited to interview for a full-time backend software development role or another relevant position.

Key responsibilities

• Develop innovative IT solutions that drive business impact using cutting-edge technologies and methods
• Collaborate with Product and Safety teams to deliver robust and secure online services that meet business requirements
• Design and run plans to improve data compliance, user safety and service reliability for users worldwide
• Work with partners to define processes and build internal and external tools for user ops, safety ops, developer ops and service reliability
• Help other teams make WeChat features available, safe and compliant for users globally

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate programme in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering or a related field
• Proficiency in backend software design, development and deployment with at least one of C++, Python, Golang, Java or Scala
• Familiarity with the Linux operating system and common system tools
• Professional working proficiency in English and Mandarin, as meetings and written materials are reviewed in both languages with global teams and Chinese headquarters stakeholders
• Strong ownership, customer orientation, integrity, good programming discipline, fast learning and teamwork
• Prior internet industry work or internship experience is a plus

Required skills

• Backend development with C++, Python, Golang, Java or Scala
• Big data and streaming frameworks (Hadoop, Spark, Hive, Kafka, Flink, Iceberg) is a plus
• Docker and Kubernetes experience is an asset
