Job description
About the role
Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD), a global medical technology company, is looking for an AI Manufacturing Excellence Intern. The intern builds an AI assistant on an approved enterprise platform to answer manufacturing productivity questions, and helps identify improvement opportunities across plants and processes. The primary work location is Jurong East, with travel to Tuas Avenue 2 manufacturing sites when required.
Key responsibilities
- Design and develop an AI assistant on an approved platform such as Microsoft Copilot Studio, Azure AI Foundry or an equivalent, using only certified data layers and approved prompts, workflows and retrieval logic.
- Create safeguards against unsupported responses, protect confidential information and require citations for quantitative outputs.
- Maintain a structured test set covering common plant questions, edge cases and access restrictions.
- Analyze certified productivity and cost measures to highlight performance gaps by plant, process, asset or loss category, and link operational losses to cost drivers such as scrap, rework, downtime, changeover, energy use and material yield.
- Build a recommendation capability that retrieves similar A3, DMAIC, Kaizen, Yokoten and Shingijutsu cases, presenting recommendations with evidence, source references and estimated value.
- Create a reusable prompt library organized by user need and workflow, documenting assumptions, data sources and limitations.
- Run AI maturity assessments, pilot sessions, user testing and short training for plant engineers and Continuous Improvement leads, collect feedback and create user guides, FAQs and a handover package.
- Take part in tier meetings and CI reviews so the solution fits existing ways of working.
Required profile
- Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Analytics or a related field.
- Available for a full-time six-month internship.
- Interest in AI, manufacturing, operational excellence and business improvement.
- Willingness to travel to manufacturing sites at Tuas Avenue 2 when required.
Required skills
- Practical exposure to Python or Power Platform and basic SQL.
- Preferred: exposure to Microsoft Copilot Studio, Azure AI Foundry or a comparable agent platform, understanding of RAG and its common failure modes, Lean Six Sigma, Kaizen or manufacturing project experience, experience facilitating user testing or training, and experience with Power BI, SharePoint, Teams or other Microsoft 365 tools.
