Android Software Engineer – Singpass

About the role

GovTech’s Singpass team is looking for an Android Software Engineer to build and maintain secure, reliable mobile services used by millions of Singapore residents. You will work on end‑to‑end features that enable high‑assurance authentication, digital signatures and secure data sharing.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from solution brainstorming with product managers to production deployment and monitoring.
• Design, develop and prototype new Android features, ensuring high standards for security and usability.
• Write clean, maintainable, secure‑by‑design code focusing on authentication, data sharing and reliable mobile experiences.
• Create intuitive, responsive UI using native Android frameworks and modern layout components.
• Design and maintain scalable Android architectures (e.g., MVVM, MVI) and optimise performance, memory usage, battery consumption and network responsiveness.
• Understand mobile‑cloud interactions and contribute to cloud‑native engineering practices.
• Collaborate closely with UX designers, cybersecurity specialists and other engineers.

Required profile

• Proactive self‑starter who identifies improvement opportunities and takes initiative.
• Versatile problem‑solver comfortable working across the Android stack and with backend teams.
• Strong fundamentals in computer science, including data structures, algorithms and networking.
• Passion for building secure, high‑quality mobile applications that serve millions of users.

Required skills

• Android development (native UI frameworks, modern layout components).
• Architectural patterns such as MVVM or MVI.
• Secure authentication and data‑sharing implementation.
• Performance optimisation (memory management, battery efficiency, network responsiveness).
• Cloud‑native engineering concepts for mobile‑cloud interaction.
• Fundamental CS knowledge: data structures, algorithms, networking.
