Applied AI Engineer, Startups (Mandarin-speaking)

About the role

The Applied AI Engineering team ensures the safe and effective deployment of Generative AI applications for developers and startups, acting as a trusted advisor and thought partner for customers ranging from early-stage to late-stage startups. This role works with strategic startup customers on ideation, development, delivery and scaling, and reports to the Startups Applied AI Lead. It is based in the Singapore office, with a hybrid model of 3 days in the office per week and relocation assistance for new employees.

Key responsibilities

• Act as a technical thought partner to startup customers, helping them move quickly from ideation to scale on the API.
• Provide proactive guidance to maximise business impact and speed up application development.
• Experiment and prototype with customers, demonstrating practical use cases.
• Contribute to open-source resources, share knowledge, codify best practices and publish useful resources.
• Deliver feedback to the Product and Research teams.
• Build relationships within the startup ecosystem, partnering with both individual customers and the wider community.
• Work with the Sales team on startup accounts to identify opportunities and align technical work with business goals.

Required profile

• Ability to speak Mandarin is required, as the role involves Mandarin-speaking customers and/or vendors.
• 5+ years of experience as a software engineer, ML engineer or equivalent, ideally in a startup environment; founder or founding engineer experience is highly valued.
• Passion for startups and belief in their potential to become large enterprises.
• Willingness to own problems end-to-end and pick up whatever knowledge is needed.
• High throughput operator able to drive multiple concurrent projects and prioritise ruthlessly.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python and JavaScript.
• Strong grasp of AI/LLM best practices.
• Experience building and delivering prototypes on the API platform.
