AS400 Engineer (Contract) – Financial Systems

About the role

We are seeking an experienced AS400 Engineer on a contract basis to provide Level 2/3 support for critical financial applications across multiple global sites. The role involves designing, maintaining, and enhancing RPG and CL modules, as well as managing system upgrades and performance.

Key responsibilities

• Provide Level 2/3 support for production incidents in highly sensitive financial environments.
• Design, develop, and maintain software modules using RPG (III, IV, Free Form) and CL.
• Perform OS upgrades, manage LPAR configurations, and handle patch management.
• Lead design and development of post‑trade applications for trade matching, settlement, and payment processing.
• Automate post‑execution operations and integrate legacy AS/400 applications with modern platforms via APIs, web services, IBM App Connect Enterprise or MQ.
• Ensure regulatory compliance, security hardening, and disaster recovery readiness.
• Coordinate testing, approval, deployment, and post‑deployment verification of enhancements.
• Generate ad‑hoc reports and custom data analysis as required.

Required profile

• Minimum 8 years of technical support experience in trading or financial services.
• Expert‑level proficiency in implementing and managing AS400 systems.
• Strong knowledge of DB2/400, complex SQL, and data mapping for financial transactions.
• Deep understanding of capital markets, custody, clearing, and post‑trade settlement cycles.
• Experience with high‑availability tools, backup/recovery, and system performance tuning.
• Familiarity with SWIFT messaging standards and integration protocols such as MQ.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
