AS400 Engineer – Level 2/3 Support for Financial Systems

About the role

We are seeking an experienced AS400 Engineer to provide Level 2/3 support for production incidents in highly sensitive financial environments across multiple global sites.

Key responsibilities

• Provide Level 2/3 support for production incidents in highly sensitive financial environments across multiple global sites.
• Design and maintain software modules using RPG (III, IV, Free Form) and CL.
• Perform OS upgrades, manage LPAR configurations, and handle patch management to ensure system stability.
• Enhance the AS400 system by developing new processes and refreshing existing ones for optimal performance.
• Lead design and development of critical post‑trade applications for trade matching, settlement, and payment processing.
• Automate and streamline complex post‑execution operations, including trade booking, intercompany settlements, and connectivity to global exchanges or clearing houses.
• Lead initiatives to integrate legacy AS/400 applications with modern platforms using APIs, web services, or middleware such as IBM App Connect Enterprise or MQ.
• Ensure systems meet regulatory requirements for data integrity, security hardening and disaster recovery.
• Coordinate testing, approval and deployment of enhancements, including post‑deployment verification.
• Generate ad‑hoc reports and provide custom data analysis as requested.
• Monitor application performance, identify improvement areas, and take proactive steps to prevent issues.

Required profile

• Minimum 8 years of experience in technical support for trading or financial services applications.
• Expert‑level proficiency in implementing and managing AS400 systems.
• Advanced knowledge of DB2/400, complex SQL concepts, and data mapping for financial transactions.
• Deep understanding of capital markets, custody, clearing, and post‑trade settlement cycles.
• Experience with high‑availability tools, backup/recovery, and system performance tuning.
• Familiarity with SWIFT messaging standards and integration protocols such as MQ.
• Strong problem‑solving abilities with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
• Keen interest in financial markets.
