Assistant Cook

About the role

We are seeking an Assistant Cook to join Old Street Traditional Food Hub in Singapore. The successful candidate will support the Cook in daily food preparation, maintain a clean kitchen, and help ensure smooth operations across all shifts.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Cook with food preparation tasks such as cleaning, cutting, chopping and peeling ingredients.
• Clean and sanitise food preparation areas in line with hygiene and health‑safety standards.
• Wash, disinfect and store cooking utensils and equipment properly.
• Buy, weigh, receive and store ingredients and supplies.
• Operate kitchen appliances and tools including cutters, knives, mixers and ovens.
• Manage inventory, unload deliveries and organise the storeroom.
• Participate in programmes aimed at improving service quality and staff productivity.
• Develop new menu items and improvise existing dishes, with a focus on North Indian cuisine.
• Monitor kitchen expenses, food costs and staffing to stay within budget.
• Work flexible shifts as required.

Required profile

• Ability to work in a fast‑paced kitchen environment.
• Willingness to perform shift work, including evenings and weekends.
• Basic knowledge of North Indian food preparation.
• Commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety.

Required skills

• Food preparation techniques (cutting, chopping, peeling).
• Operation of kitchen appliances (mixers, ovens, cutters).
• Inventory management and stock handling.
