Assistant Professor – Coordinator of Music as Collaborative Practice

About the role

The Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music at the National University of Singapore is launching a new major, Music as Collaborative Practice (MCP). We seek an Assistant Professor to coordinate this programme, overseeing curriculum design, industry partnerships and student mentorship across four years.

Key responsibilities

• Design and manage the full operational cycle of MCP for Years 1‑4, integrating instrumental, vocal, composition, theory and contextual studies.
• Build and maintain partnerships with theatre companies, festivals, NUS faculties and community organisations to secure authentic project commissions.
• Recruit, contract and manage a cohort of industry mentors (film composers, music directors, sound designers, producers) to work in residence with student ensembles.
• Coordinate timetable “white space” with the Academic Office to protect rehearsal and project delivery time.
• Adapt MCP project cycles to existing studio and seminar structures, ensuring vertical mentorship and progressive student autonomy.
• Develop community and outreach activities that showcase collaborative student work.

Required profile

• Imaginative and organised practitioner‑educator with a deep commitment to collaborative music‑making.
• Strong industry networks in music, film, theatre and sound design.
• Proven ability to design and deliver project‑based curricula in a conservatory setting.
• Experience supervising student ensembles and mentoring junior faculty or mentors.
