Assistant Professor (Education Track) in Philosophy – Full-Time

About the role

Singapore Management University’s School of Social Sciences is seeking two full‑time, education‑track Assistant Professors in Philosophy. The successful candidates will join the faculty in July 2027 and will be responsible for teaching introductory courses in critical thinking (and optionally ethics), conducting research, and contributing to curriculum design.

Key responsibilities

• Teach six course sections per academic year (approximately nine contact hours per week), with class sizes capped at 48 students.
• Develop and deliver an introductory critical thinking course; ability to teach introductory ethics is highly desirable.
• Maintain an active research agenda and publish scholarly work in moral, political, social, or comparative philosophy.
• Participate in internal service activities such as curriculum review and departmental committees.

Required profile

• Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Philosophy.
• Demonstrated teaching experience at the tertiary level.
• Evidence of excellent teaching ability (e.g., evaluations, syllabi).
• Strong scholarly record with publications in relevant philosophical fields.
