Assistant/Associate Professor in Malay Literature & Education

About the role

The Department of Asian Languages & Cultures at the National Institute of Education seeks qualified candidates for a faculty position in its Malay language and culture division. The role involves teaching, research, and service to support the development of Malay language teachers and scholars in Singapore.

Key responsibilities

• Lead or collaborate on funded research projects and maintain a strong publication record.
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses, supervise student research projects, and mentor student teachers during school placements.
• Build and sustain connections with local and international professional communities.
• Undertake administrative duties as required by the department.
• Provide professional services to schools, the Ministry of Education, and other public education organisations on request.
• For Associate Professors: mentor junior faculty and serve on NIE/NTU committees.

Required profile

• Doctoral degree in Malay Literature (modern or classical) or comparative literature.
• Strong interest in Jawi literacy and extensive research experience in the field.
• Highly proficient in reading and writing modern and classical Jawi texts.
• Native or near‑native competence in oral and written Malay and English.
• Demonstrated ability to teach effectively at undergraduate and graduate levels.
• Good knowledge of the Singapore curriculum and education system.
• A degree or diploma in education is preferred.
