Associate Editor – Discover Journals (Materials Science)

About the role

The Discover Journals series at Springer Nature seeks an Associate Editor to lead a portfolio of Materials Science journals. Reporting to an Executive Publisher, you will drive journal launches, strategic development and ensure high‑quality author service across a hybrid work environment.

Key responsibilities

• Project‑manage the timely launch of new journals, meeting Board and content thresholds.
• Develop and present proposals for new journal launches, assessing scientific relevance and market potential.
• Create and execute journal development strategies for each portfolio title, aligning with the broader Discover Series objectives.
• Oversee editorial handling of manuscripts throughout the review process, ensuring speed and integrity.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders, external editors and content acquisition teams to support subject‑specific strategies.
• Maintain strong relationships with the scientific community to promote journal visibility and growth.

Required profile

• Proven experience in academic publishing or related editorial roles.
• Strong scientific comprehension in Materials Science and related disciplines.
• Strategic mindset with the ability to make high‑quality decisions and manage complexity.
• Excellent communication and liaison skills with internal and external partners.
• Ability to work autonomously in a hybrid setting and meet deadlines.
