Backend Engineer – Mid-Level

About the role

Portcast is looking for a Mid‑Level Backend Engineer to join its engineering team in Singapore. Reporting to the Engineering Manager and collaborating closely with Product, you will help design, build and scale the core services that power the company’s real‑time transportation visibility platform.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain high‑availability APIs and backend services.
• Debug production issues across multiple layers of the stack.
• Collaborate with Business, Product and Data Science teams to solve customer pain points at scale.
• Architect and implement enterprise‑grade web application platforms.
• Own end‑to‑end data pipelines, from event ingestion through normalization, ML‑powered risk modeling, to user‑visible recommendations.
• Build internal tooling, monitoring and alerting systems to catch issues before they affect customers.
• Make architecture trade‑offs explicit, instrument code, and optimize based on measurable data.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 4 years of experience designing, developing, and releasing production software solutions.
• Strong problem‑solving mindset with curiosity about underlying system behavior.
