Data Governance Consultant – Banking Industry

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Data Governance Consultant to strengthen regulatory compliance, data quality, and governance within the banking sector. This senior position will work closely with business, IT, and external partners to ensure data is accurate, consistent, and aligned with regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and define Critical Data Elements (CDEs) based on regulatory reporting and business priorities.
• Develop and maintain data flow diagrams, data dictionaries, metadata repositories, and related documentation.
• Map data elements to regulatory, risk, management, and operational reporting requirements.
• Standardize data definitions, business rules, and data specifications across the organization.
• Assess data quality dimensions and recommend improvement initiatives.
• Define and enhance data quality controls, validation, reconciliation, and monitoring processes.
• Establish end‑to‑end data lineage and evaluate governance frameworks against BCBS239 principles.
• Support regulatory reviews, audits, and governance assessments with documentation and evidence.
• Define KPIs, metrics, and issue‑management processes to improve governance effectiveness.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Data Management, Information Systems, Computer Science, Finance, Business or related field.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in Data Governance or Data Management, preferably in banking or financial services.
• Strong understanding of banking operations, regulatory reporting, risk management, and data governance practices.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and logical reasoning abilities.
• Effective communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
