Deputy Manager, Security & Platform Reliability Engineer

About the role

This role combines security and platform reliability work within IT and services. You will maintain the security posture and system hardening of on-premises endpoints and cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure), manage government security monitoring services, and ensure critical platforms are reliable, scalable, observable and maintainable.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain security posture and system hardening for on-premises endpoints and cloud IT infrastructure, including managing the Government Cyber Security Operations Centre (GCSOC) and Automated Baseline Log Review (ABLR)
• Support IT security tools such as Microsoft Defender, Secure Service Edge and firewalls
• Implement monitoring and observability tools, lead incident response and root cause analysis, and develop scripts, Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and internal tools
• Act as the point of contact for security alerts from SIEM, ABLR and GCSOC, and represent the team in security discussions
• Take part in cyber hygiene reviews and ensure compliance with CIS, NIST and Government Technology Agency standards
• Support security assurance activities such as IT audits, penetration testing and vulnerability assessments, and ensure timely remediation
• Help implement security policies and controls, and manage procurement, projects and the lifecycle of platform services
• Review on-premises and cloud infrastructure regularly and recommend improvements

Required profile

• Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related discipline
• At least 5 years of experience in platform reliability engineering and infrastructure security operations
• Familiarity with AWS and Azure cloud architecture
• Strong communication skills, able to explain complex security topics to non-technical stakeholders
• Certifications such as CISSP, CEH, AWS or Azure are advantageous
