Director, APAC Head of Platform Services

About the role

Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG) is seeking an accomplished, strategically minded Platforms Lead to head its infrastructure and platform engineering function within the Technology division. This is a senior leadership role in a regulated financial services environment, responsible for the end-to-end delivery and operational integrity of hosting infrastructure, virtualisation platforms, Windows and Linux server estates, cloud environments (AWS and Azure), observability tooling and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the long-term technology roadmap for hosting, virtualisation, cloud and observability, and lead a team of platform and infrastructure engineers.
• Oversee on-premises hosting and data centre operations, and drive the lifecycle of virtualisation platforms (VMware, Hyper-V or equivalent).
• Maintain Windows Server and Linux (RHEL, Ubuntu or equivalent) environments, enforcing hardening, patching and configuration management, and champion infrastructure-as-code (Ansible, Puppet, Chef or equivalent).
• Lead cloud operations on AWS and Azure, including migration, hybrid cloud design, governance, tagging, cost management and identity and access controls.
• Embed an observability-first culture (logging, metrics, distributed tracing, alerting) and mature SRE practices such as SLO/SLA, error budgets and blameless incident reviews.
• Maintain a risk and control framework, work with Internal Audit, Risk and Compliance, and ensure disaster recovery and business continuity capabilities.
• Manage third-party and vendor risk for platform suppliers.

Required profile

• At least 10 years of progressive technology leadership experience, including 5 years in a senior management or lead capacity.
• Proven platforms leadership experience in a regulated financial services environment (banking, asset management, insurance, payments or similar).
• Demonstrable experience leading SRE or platform reliability functions and embedding observability tooling at scale.
• Strong people leadership and stakeholder management skills, and experience in formal governance, risk and audit environments.
• Background in control assurance, technology risk or operational resilience within financial services.

Required skills

• Hosting infrastructure, virtualisation, Windows and Linux, AWS and Azure.
• Formal cloud certifications (AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Administrator/Architect or equivalent).
• Experience with financial services regulatory frameworks (FCA, PRA, DORA or equivalent) and FinOps practices.
• Familiarity with ITIL, DORA metrics or other service management and reliability frameworks.
