Director of Engineering

About the role

The Director of Engineering will lead the Engineering & Maintenance Department of a luxury hotel, ensuring all building systems, equipment and facilities are safe, reliable, efficient and well maintained. The role covers preventive maintenance, fire life safety, energy management, sustainability, budgeting and emergency response to support seamless hotel operations and guest service.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Engineering & Maintenance team, overseeing daily repairs, preventive maintenance and overall upkeep of MEP, kitchen equipment, BMS, emergency power and fire life safety systems.
• Develop and monitor preventive maintenance and asset replacement programmes to improve reliability, extend asset life and reduce operating costs.
• Manage the department’s operating budget and CAPEX, including equipment replacement, system upgrades and energy‑saving initiatives.
• Drive energy conservation and sustainability projects, supporting BCA Green Mark and corporate ESG requirements.
• Ensure compliance with workplace safety, fire life safety, environmental and statutory regulations through regular inspections and audits.
• Lead engineering response during emergencies such as power failures, fire alarms or major equipment breakdowns.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
• 5–8 years of hotel engineering or facilities management experience, including senior leadership responsibilities.
• Strong knowledge of hotel building systems, MEP, BMS, fire life safety and energy management.
• Hands‑on experience in equipment troubleshooting, maintenance operations and project management.
• Proven ability to manage budgets, CAPEX planning and asset‑enhancement projects.
