Forensic Nurse Examiner (RNCA) – Upper River Valley

About the role

The Forensic Nurse Examiner (RNCA) provides compassionate, non‑judgemental care to victims of sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and maltreatment of children or elders. Working primarily in the Emergency Department or inpatient units, the nurse conducts medical‑forensic examinations, offers crisis support, and collaborates with legal and community partners.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver direct medical‑forensic care to patients presenting after sexual assault or intimate partner violence.
• Provide immediate trauma‑informed crisis intervention, safety planning, and emotional support.
• Ensure patient privacy and maintain rigorous forensic documentation.
• Travel within the health zone to reach patients in need of forensic services.
• Assist in the Emergency Department when forensic care is not required.
• Collaborate with the program coordinator on education, prevention initiatives, and research projects.
• Participate in legal proceedings as a forensic expert when called upon.

Required profile

• Active registration with the Nurses Association of New Brunswick (NANB).
• Minimum two years of registered nursing experience.
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Current SANE certification or recent FNE experience with willingness to obtain certification within six months.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage emergencies, and prioritize complex patient needs.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to trauma‑informed care.
• Good attendance record and physical ability to perform duties.
