Legal Assistant / Associate – Trademark Prosecution

About the role

We are seeking a Legal Assistant / Associate to lead end‑to‑end trademark prosecution across multiple jurisdictions. You will work closely with business teams and external counsel to drive applications from filing through registration and manage contentious matters.

Key responsibilities

• Handle trademark filing programmes, including class and jurisdiction scoping, national and Madrid Protocol routes.
• Manage office action workflows, prepare analyses, coordinate with external counsel, and meet deadlines.
• Oversee contentious matters such as oppositions, cancellations, invalidations, and appeals, including evidence collation and draft supervision.
• Support brand protection activities: infringement complaints, cease‑and‑desist letters, takedowns, and coordination with business units.
• Maintain end‑to‑end docketing: procedural deadlines, renewals, recordals, portfolio trackers, and status reporting.
• Commercially manage external counsel: scope instructions, obtain fee quotes, monitor spend, and review invoices.
• Potentially assist with patent filings as the portfolio expands.
• Prepare concise, decision‑ready summaries and risk escalations for internal stakeholders.

Required profile

• Minimum 6 years of hands‑on trademark prosecution experience in a law firm or IP agency.
• Proven track record managing multi‑jurisdiction portfolios and instructing foreign associates, including Madrid Protocol work.
• Practical experience with contentious trademark matters.
• Strong docketing discipline, meticulous organization, and high‑quality output.
• Proactive, autonomous, with sound judgment on escalation.
• Highly ethical, discreet, and able to maintain confidentiality.
