Legal Counsel - Asia

About the role

BBC Studios, a media company born of the BBC that makes and distributes TV, audio and digital content, is hiring a Legal Counsel in Singapore. The role provides commercially focused legal advice and support to BBC Studios' businesses across Asia, acting as a trusted legal and business partner to senior stakeholders on strategic, commercial and operational matters, while contributing to a regional legal team. It reports to the Senior Legal Counsel, Asia.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements and legal documentation, mitigating legal, financial and reputational risk
• Give accurate, timely and commercially focused legal advice to clients
• Represent BBC Studios and build creative and commercial relationships internally and externally
• Mitigate legal, contractual and business risk and resolve disputes on content, brand and IP protection
• Ensure compliance with BBCS policies, procedures and relevant legislation and regulation
• Lead or assist on complex projects and work across multiple time zones and business lines

Required profile

• Admitted to practice as a lawyer in a common law jurisdiction (Singapore or the UK preferred; US or Australia also considered)
• 1-3 years of post-qualification experience
• Fluency in English
• Primary focus on supporting BBC Studios' Japan business

Required skills

• Negotiating, rights management, contracting and copyright experience
• Managing diverse workstreams and applying complex analytical and problem-solving skills under pressure
• Desirable: knowledge of the broadcast, news and content production sector and of broadcaster, producer and distributor structures
• Desirable: working proficiency in an additional language such as Mandarin, Japanese or Korean
