Manager Inbound and Customs

About the role

The Manager Inbound and Customs leads customs compliance and trade operations across Southeast Asia (Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Brunei and others), ensuring compliant, efficient and cost-effective cross-border logistics aligned with international trade regulations. The role supports business continuity, timely product delivery, trade compliance, logistics performance and trade risk mitigation.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure timely, compliant movement of J&J products and act as primary liaison with government authorities on regulatory matters
• Design and document standardized SOPs for import/export, set KPIs and monitor them continuously
• Partner with regional and global trade compliance on policy and regulatory updates; lead internal audits, prepare for government inspections and run corrective action plans (HS classification, customs valuation, country of origin)
• Manage 3PL/4PL providers, freight forwarders and customs brokers, optimizing vendor performance through regular reviews
• Manage duty optimization programs, bonded zones and tariff mitigation strategies
• Work with IT partners on digitalization initiatives such as customs automation
• Monitor KPIs including OTIF, lead time, freight cost and service levels
• Keep import/export data consistent between customs records and J&J systems, and reconcile bonded inventory with physical goods
• Lead continuous improvement projects and develop contingency plans for supply disruption, port congestion and geopolitical risks

Required profile

• 8+ years of experience in customs and trade compliance
• Experience in a regulated industry (medical device, pharmaceutical or healthcare) strongly preferred
• Bachelor's degree in Logistics, International Trading or a related field
• Strong communication skills in English and Mandarin
