Manufacturing Test Quality Engineer

About the role

Applied Materials, a global leader in materials science and engineering solutions for semiconductors and advanced displays, is hiring a Manufacturing Test Quality Engineer in its Singapore manufacturing plant (cleanroom-adjacent). The role sits in the Operations / Quality Engineering department, reports to the Manufacturing Quality Manager and bridges test engineering with quality assurance for complex semiconductor capital equipment such as lithography, CVD and etch systems.

Key responsibilities

• Define, validate and document new manufacturing test plans, and modify fixture design and diagnostic hardware interfaces during the New Product Introduction (NPI) phase.
• Develop, pilot and troubleshoot automated test scripts and software packages using Mayan and Python for tool-level diagnostics.
• Lead structured failure investigations (8D, CAPA, 5 Whys) for structural dropouts and complex hardware failures on the assembly line.
• Monitor First-Pass Yield (FPY) data, identify trends and implement preventative corrective actions.
• Perform MSA and Gage R&R studies to confirm test station reliability and eliminate measurement drift.
• Ensure testing protocols comply with cleanroom contamination regulations (ISO Class 4 / Class 100).
• Work with NPI Process and Hardware Design teams to integrate test access paths, diagnostic loops and physical test nodes into equipment designs.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, Applied Physics or a closely related field.
• 7-10+ years of engineering experience in semiconductor manufacturing, complex medical equipment manufacturing, or high-tech aerospace/capital hardware.
• Hands-on experience with high-power RF generators, ultra-high vacuum environments, gas delivery manifolds or precision optical/laser alignment mechanisms.
• Ability to spend parts of the shift in cleanroom apparel near heavy machinery assembly areas.

Required skills

• Statistical Process Control (SPC), FMEA and Six Sigma.
• SEMI standards (S2 safety, S8 ergonomics) and ISO 9001.
• Data analysis tools Minitab and JMP, and test development tools Mayan and Python.
