Market Risk Lead Advisor – Energy Trading Group

About the role

A growing energy group is expanding its trading and risk capabilities in Singapore and is hiring a Market Risk Advisor for its energy trading business, which covers energy derivatives trading. The role suits an experienced risk professional who wants to stay close to the trading floor while keeping the independence and judgement of a robust risk function.

Key responsibilities

• Take ownership of market risk oversight across a portfolio of physical and financial energy products, reporting to the relevant leadership team.
• Provide senior management and traders with a clear view of portfolio exposures and performance, covering VaR, P&L attribution, stress and scenario testing, sensitivities, position limits, concentration and liquidity risk.
• Challenge trading strategies and evaluate new products, hedging approaches and structured transactions from a risk-adjusted return perspective.
• Help develop the risk infrastructure: strengthen valuation and price verification controls, refine limits and governance, improve management reporting, data quality and automation, and support the evolution of ETRM/CTRM and analytical tools.
• Work with Trading, Finance, Operations, Compliance and Technology to build a scalable front-to-back risk framework.

Required profile

• About 10 years of experience in market risk, trading risk, product control or quantitative risk within an energy or commodities environment, ideally an integrated energy company, commodity trading house, utility or investment bank.
• Strong knowledge of derivatives markets, including forward curves, forwards, futures, swaps, options and commodity hedging strategies.
• Experience developing or enhancing trading risk frameworks, controls and management reporting is particularly relevant.
• Commercial credibility to engage traders and senior stakeholders, with the independence to challenge risk-taking.

Required skills

• Hands-on experience with VaR, stress testing, scenario analysis, valuation and P&L attribution.
• Advanced Excel.
• Advantageous: Python, SQL, Power BI and ETRM/CTRM platforms.
