Material Project Manager II – Engineering & Sourcing

About the role

The Material Project Manager II will forecast and communicate engineering, materials and manufacturing requirements to suppliers, support make‑versus‑buy decisions and drive material strategy for new product development. This role partners with engineering, planning and quality teams to ensure timely, cost‑effective sourcing and seamless transition of materials into production.

Key responsibilities

• Forecast and communicate material and manufacturing needs, providing input for outsourcing decisions through make‑versus‑buy analysis.
• Coordinate demand signals via MRP to minimize inventory exposure and manage material change‑control processes.
• Lead supplier selection, price negotiation and risk assessment for critical and unique parts.
• Monitor supplier performance (delivery, quality, cost) and generate key process indicators.
• Collaborate with engineering to identify critical, long‑lead and inspection‑required parts and develop commodity road‑maps.

Required profile

• Demonstrated expertise in materials engineering and understanding of related disciplines.
• Knowledge of best practices in sourcing, cost analysis and supplier performance management.
• Ability to lead small projects, solve complex problems and influence cross‑functional teams.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MRP systems for demand planning.
• Experience conducting supplier risk assessments.
• Capability to perform make‑versus‑buy and Should‑Cost analyses.
