About the role
Join the Debug Project, a Google‑backed team of scientists and engineers developing innovative solutions to control mosquito‑borne diseases. As a Mechanical Engineer you will work closely with biologists, software engineers, and automation experts to design, build, and improve automated systems for sterile mosquito release.
Key responsibilities
- Design and construct automated electromechanical systems using servo, pneumatic, sensor, and drive components.
- Manage the full product lifecycle from requirement definition and prototype validation to production launch.
- Serve as the primary technical liaison for science, software, and operations teams, solving complex engineering challenges.
- Collaborate with real‑world users to iterate designs, test prototypes, and verify compliance with specifications.
- Investigate and resolve performance issues in production equipment.
- Evaluate existing equipment and processes, creating multi‑year improvement roadmaps.
- Perform engineering calculations and use tools such as CAD, FMEA, and DFA to establish product performance.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- At least 3 years of experience designing mechanical components (plastic or metal parts, assemblies, PCBs, flexes).
- Minimum 3 years using CAD tools such as 3D MCAD, NX, Creo, or SolidWorks.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work within multidisciplinary teams.
