PFA Engineer

About the role

Micron Technology is seeking a Failure Analysis (PFA) Engineer to join its semiconductor lab. You will work on electrical and physical failure analysis of device anomalies, customer returns, and qualification failures, using advanced instrumentation and data‑driven techniques.

Key responsibilities

• Perform electrical and physical failure analysis for device anomalies, returns, and qualification failures.
• Operate advanced FA tools such as FIB/EDX, SEM, ion millers, CSAM, 2D/3D X‑ray, Emmi systems, micro‑probers and bench testers.
• Analyze test data using Bash/Python scripting in a Unix environment.
• Interpret electrical signatures and physical defects to identify failure mechanisms.
• Collaborate with process owners and product teams to drive corrective actions.
• Develop and implement new FA techniques to reduce turnaround time and improve accuracy.
• Lead continuous‑improvement initiatives and maintain strict lab safety and 6S standards.
• Prepare detailed FA reports, present findings to MRB and cross‑functional teams, and guide FA technicians.
• Work with vendors on tool upgrades and leverage AI‑enabled tools, automation, and data analytics to accelerate investigations.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or advanced degree in Engineering.
• Strong analytical, logical and critical‑thinking abilities.
• Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate across all levels.
• Growth mindset with a passion for continuous learning.
• Interest or experience in the semiconductor industry (internship or prior work is a plus).

Required skills

• FIB/EDX, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), ion milling, CSAM.
• 2D/3D X‑ray inspection, Emmi systems, micro‑probing and bench testing equipment.
• Bash and Python scripting in a Unix/Linux environment.
• Use of AI‑enabled analysis tools, automation, and data‑analytics platforms.
• Baseline digital fluency and AI literacy for research and problem‑solving.
