Pharmacy Technician / Senior Pharmacy Technician (Inpatient/ED)

About the role

NHG is hiring a Pharmacy Technician or Senior Pharmacy Technician for its inpatient and emergency department pharmacy. The role covers dispensing, billing, inventory control and supporting the pharmacist, with additional responsibilities in medication safety, unit dose packaging and pharmacy automation.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist in processing medication orders for inpatient and outpatient dispensing, including typing, packing, labelling and distributing drug supplies to wards and other departments.
• Handle billing functions, recover outstanding bills and answer billing and subsidy enquiries.
• Dispense medicines under the supervision of a pharmacist and follow Good Dispensing Practice policies.
• Receive, unpack and check deliveries against documents, and monitor and maintain drug stock levels.
• Record stock receipts, issues and transfers in the inventory system, and help count stock during stocktakes.
• Maintain clean work areas and support hospital activities such as QC, community projects and staff welfare.
• Liaise with the compounding laboratory on extemporaneous and sterile preparation orders, and help orient and train new staff.
• Assist the Medication Safety In-Charge with error trending reports and investigations, and implement medication safety improvements.
• Repackage and quality-check medicines for the pharmacy automation system, and support the Unit Dose Packaging pharmacy with production planning and machine troubleshooting.
• Process sterile and extemporaneous preparations according to USP guidelines, and keep the clean room and equipment clean and organised.
• Maintain pharmacy IT and automation systems, act as system super-user and train staff, and work with system supports on troubleshooting and workflow design.

Required profile

• Diploma in Pharmaceutical Science, or an Advanced Certificate Course in Pharmacy Support (Pharmacy Technician).
• Or a foreign pharmacy degree (not registrable with SPC) with structured in-house training and OJT leading to an in-house competency assessment.
