Postdoctoral Fellow - Avian Influenza Research

About the role

A multidisciplinary team studying the zoonotic risk posed by avian influenza A viruses (AIVs) in wild birds is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow. The fellow will investigate serological responses and the antigenic characteristics of zoonotic AIVs, contributing to understanding of viral exposure, antigenic evolution, cross-species transmission risks and preparedness for emerging avian influenza threats.

Key responsibilities

• Generate recombinant influenza viruses using reverse-genetics systems
• Develop and perform ELISA, multiplex immunoassays, virus neutralisation assays and other high-throughput serological assays
• Characterise monoclonal antibodies and develop species-independent antibody detection assays
• Carry out antigenic characterisation and antigenic mapping of AIV strains
• Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary research team

Required profile

• PhD in Virology and Immunology or a related field
• At least one first-author research article in an international peer-reviewed journal
• Demonstrated experience working with influenza viruses or other zoonotic viruses
• Previous experience working under BSL-3 conditions is preferred
