Power Quality Engineer – Data Centre Power Assurance

About the role

The Power Quality Engineer in the Mining Performance Assurance (MPA) department supports the daily operation of global data‑centre facilities, ensuring the stability and efficiency of high‑performance computing equipment through power‑quality monitoring, analysis and optimisation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement power‑quality monitoring plans for Tier III/IV data‑centres and critical power systems.
• Perform on‑site installation, commissioning and long‑term or temporary monitoring using professional analyzers such as Fluke (435/1760/174 series), Dranetz, Hioki, PQube or Schneider ION.
• Collect and analyse voltage, frequency, harmonics, imbalance, flicker and dip/swell data, processing results with Python, MATLAB or Excel.
• Identify disturbance sources (e.g., non‑linear loads, UPS, PCS inverters) and propose mitigation measures such as active/passive filters or reactive‑power compensation.
• Participate in battery energy storage system (BESS) integration assessments, including pre‑connection reviews, on‑site testing and compliance verification.
• Track international power‑quality standards and share technical updates within the organisation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience with power‑quality monitoring and analysis in data‑centre or industrial environments.
• Familiarity with IEC 61000 series and IEEE 519 standards.
• Ability to work on‑site across multiple global locations.

Required skills
