Principal Pharmacist – Lead Inpatient Pharmacy Operations

About the role

The Principal Pharmacist will lead the inpatient pharmacy team in a new integrated hospital campus. This senior position is responsible for ensuring safe, timely, and efficient medication processing, supporting patient discharge, and driving continuous improvement across pharmacy operations.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee accurate verification, preparation, and dispensing of medication orders for inpatient care.
• Manage discharge medication processes to minimise patient waiting times.
• Review and optimise pharmacy workflows to increase efficiency and reduce medication errors.
• Plan and adjust staff schedules, ensuring appropriate coverage across all shifts.
• Supervise, mentor and develop pharmacy staff, coordinating onboarding and ongoing training.
• Collaborate with nursing and multidisciplinary teams to strengthen medication administration.
• Lead medication safety initiatives and resolve incidents or service issues promptly.
• Maintain adequate medication stock levels and oversee pharmacy technology, including automated dispensing systems.
• Facilitate regular team meetings to share updates and promote a positive work culture.

Required profile

• Degree in Pharmacy with professional registration.
• Extensive experience in inpatient pharmacy operations and staff management.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Proven ability to lead process improvement and safety initiatives.
