Process Integration & R&D SME – AR Waveguides

About the role

The company seeks a senior specialist to lead end‑to‑end process integration and research & development for augmented‑reality waveguide technologies. You will translate optical designs into robust nanofabrication flows and drive innovative material and process solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Own end‑to‑end process flow integration for AR waveguides, translating optical designs into manufacturable nanofabrication processes.
• Define process margins, design rules and tolerance specifications across multi‑step fabrication modules.
• Lead root‑cause analysis for yield detractors, structural defects and optical performance variations, implementing corrective actions.
• Drive R&D initiatives in advanced nanofabrication techniques such as NIL, EBL, DUV lithography and RIE/ICP.
• Evaluate and integrate high‑refractive‑index materials to optimise optical efficiency and field‑of‑view.
• Design and execute Design of Experiments to optimise critical dimensions, slant angles, grating profiles and surface roughness.
• Collaborate with optical design, metrology and product teams to align process capabilities with product requirements.
• Partner with external vendors and foundries to evaluate next‑generation tooling and facilitate technology transfers.

Required profile

• Master’s or Ph.D. in Materials Science, Physics, Electrical/Chemical Engineering, Nanotechnology or a related field.
• 7+ years experience in semiconductor, MEMS or photonics processing, including at least 3 years in AR waveguide fabrication.
• Proven track record taking optical/nanostructured components from R&D to pilot production.

Required skills

• Nanoimprint lithography (NIL), electron‑beam lithography (EBL), deep‑UV lithography, reactive ion etching (RIE/ICP).
• Thin‑film deposition techniques (ALD, PVD, CVD) and precision wafer handling.
• Metrology tools: AFM, SEM, TEM, ellipsometry, scatterometry, optical metrology.
• Design of Experiments (DOE) and statistical analysis using JMP, MATLAB or Python.
