Job description
About the role
The Institute for Digital Molecular Analytics and Science (IDMxS), a Research Centre of Excellence at NTU, is looking for a Project Officer to support the development of machine learning-driven, array-based nanosensors for detecting and differentiating complex, multi-component mixtures. The role focuses on designing and fabricating receptor-functionalized nanoparticles, collecting and analysing spectroscopic data, investigating receptor-analyte interactions and developing machine learning frameworks for selecting and optimizing receptor combinations.
Key responsibilities
- Design and functionalize nanoparticles with different molecular receptors for array-based nanosensing.
- Perform spectroscopic measurements, including surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS), to study receptor-analyte interactions.
- Build a spectroscopic database covering multiple receptor-analyte pairs.
- Process, analyse and interpret spectroscopic data.
- Investigate receptor-analyte interactions using in silico methods such as DFT simulations.
- Apply machine learning to evaluate, select and optimize receptor combinations for different analytical tasks.
- Assist the Principal Investigator with research papers and other scientific outputs.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry, materials science or a related discipline.
- At least 3 years of research experience in nanomaterial synthesis, characterization, surface functionalization and/or molecular sensing applications.
- Experience with spectroscopic techniques, especially SERS, including data analysis and interpretation.
- Familiarity with computational approaches such as DFT simulations and with machine learning applied to spectroscopic datasets.
- Good communication skills and ability to work in an interdisciplinary research environment.
