Project Officer – Solar Panel Recycling (Materials Science)

About the role

The Energy Research Institute at NTU (ERI@N) is seeking a Project Officer to support its SCARCE collaboration on recycling silicon solar panels. The role focuses on hydrometallurgical processing of solar grey‑mass, metal dissolution, and scale‑up activities within a research environment.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct literature reviews and provide updates on hydrometallurgical recycling approaches for solar panel waste.
• Perform and optimise laboratory‑scale and pilot‑scale hydrometallurgical processing, including electro‑recovery of valuable materials.
• Analyse metal concentrations in leachate solutions and characterise residues or grey‑mass using techniques such as ICP‑OES, SEM/EDX, and particle‑size analysis.
• Prepare technical reports, videos, manuals and present results to internal and external collaborators.
• Support laboratory logistics, administrative tasks and coordinate project‑related activities to ensure smooth operations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, material science or a related field.
• Entry‑level candidates are welcome; willingness to learn and adapt to tasks beyond the core description.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective teamwork.

Required skills

• Experience with material characterisation techniques such as SEM‑EDX, XRD and ICP‑OES.
• Hands‑on experience in electrochemical analysis techniques.
• Knowledge of hydrometallurgical processing and leachate analysis.
• Familiarity with particle‑size analysis equipment.
