Regional Commercial Underwriter

About the role

This role underwrites credit insurance risks across a regional portfolio, supporting profitable growth through disciplined risk selection, pricing and policy structuring. It involves assessing buyer creditworthiness, evaluating country and sector exposures and collaborating with internal stakeholders on timely, well-justified underwriting decisions within appetite and delegated authority. The position is based in Singapore with occasional travel for broker and client meetings.

Key responsibilities

• Underwrite credit insurance proposals, renewals, amendments and endorsements in line with guidelines and regulations.
• Analyse financial statements, management accounts, cash flow and payment performance to set and manage credit limits.
• Monitor portfolio performance, exposures and concentrations, and recommend risk mitigation actions.
• Set terms, conditions, pricing and deductibles, documenting the rationale and keeping audit trails.
• Work with distribution, brokers and client service teams on account strategy, new business and retention.
• Contribute to regional underwriting projects, product enhancements and process improvements such as automation.
• Support claims, collections and recoveries teams and prepare underwriting referrals and portfolio reports for committees.

Required profile

• 5+ years of credit insurance underwriting and/or trade credit risk experience, with regional portfolio exposure.
• Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business or a related discipline; insurance or credit risk qualifications are advantageous.
• Ability to work within delegated authorities, governance and compliance frameworks.
• Stakeholder management, negotiation and advanced communication skills.

Required skills

• Financial analysis of audited accounts and key credit ratios.
• Knowledge of trade credit insurance products, policy wordings and exclusions.
• Understanding of country and sector risk across Asia.
• Proficiency with underwriting systems, spreadsheets and credit information tools.
