Research Assistant – Learning Sciences & Assessment

About the role

The National Institute of Education is seeking a Research Assistant for an 18‑month fixed‑term project in the Learning Sciences & Assessment Department. The role supports a study that explores how a generative‑AI chatbot (ReguLearn) can improve self‑regulated learning among secondary and junior college students in Singapore.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct literature reviews, design research instruments and prepare interview protocols.
• Recruit participants, coordinate outreach and conduct interviews (in‑person or online).
• Record, clean, verify and manage research data in line with confidentiality standards.
• Perform data analysis and assist the Principal Investigator in interpreting findings.
• Develop or support development of AI‑powered chatbots for the project.
• Maintain project documentation, shared drives and equipment procurement.
• Monitor budget, handle administrative processes and coordinate external consultant visits.
• Attend project meetings, take minutes and prepare progress updates.
• Draft research reports, presentations and publication materials.
• Provide guidance to student assistants as needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
• Knowledge of research methods and prior experience in a research role, preferably in education.
• Strong administrative, time‑management and ability to work under pressure.
• Preferred experience in academic publishing and ethics‑clearance applications.
• Familiarity with the Singapore school system is an advantage.
