Research Assistant – Nano-Microplastics Characterization

About the role

We are seeking a Research Assistant to support the NMPWaterSG project, which aims to develop novel approaches for characterising nano‑microplastics in Singapore’s water systems. The role involves on‑site sampling, laboratory analysis and contributing to the establishment of standard detection methods.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with research fellows and assist the Principal Investigator and Co‑Principal Investigators in experimental design and troubleshooting.
• Conduct on‑site sampling of nano‑microplastics from various water sources following established protocols.
• Operate specialised instruments including tubular furnace, muffle furnace, laser direct infrared (LDIR), Raman spectrometer, thermogravimetric analyser (TGA) and pyrolysis‑GC‑MS (Py‑GCMS).
• Process and analyse data generated by these instruments.
• Summarise findings, prepare progress reports, final reports and scientific recommendations.

Required profile

• B.Eng. or B.Sc. in analytical chemistry, environmental engineering, chemistry or a related discipline.
• Strong motivation and responsibility for research and development.
• Good interpersonal and teamwork abilities.
• Effective written communication and report‑writing skills.
