Research Associate – AI for Mathematics Learning

About the role

The National Institute of Education is seeking a Research Associate for a 12‑month renewable contract in the Office for Research. The role supports the AI4SoL project, which investigates the use of large language models to enhance primary mathematics learning through dialogic practice and adaptive inquiry.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop primary mathematics learning materials, assessments and research instruments.
• Conduct comprehensive literature reviews and synthesize findings.
• Manage and execute advanced quantitative and qualitative data analysis using tools such as SPSS, R, NVivo and Excel.
• Coordinate on‑site data collection in schools, including survey distribution, test administration and equipment setup.
• Maintain project documentation and draft research updates or technical reports.
• Provide administrative and support duties as assigned by the Principal Investigators.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Education, Psychology, Learning Sciences, Mathematics Education or a related field.
• Prior experience teaching primary mathematics, preferably in a local school context.

Required skills

• Proficiency with SPSS for statistical analysis.
• Experience using R for data manipulation and modelling.
• Familiarity with NVivo for qualitative data coding.
• Advanced Excel skills for data handling and reporting.
