Job description
About the role
The Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N), a pan-university research institute founded in 2010 focused on systems-level research for tropical megacities, is looking for a Research Associate to work on carbon-enhanced concrete materials. The role centres on research and development of new materials linked to the project.
Key responsibilities
- Develop carbon-material-enhanced concrete, incorporating various carbon materials that are securely stored while improving concrete properties
- Test all relevant aspects of the advanced concrete materials developed
- Carry out cost-benefit and life-cycle assessment (LCA) analysis of the developed materials
- Demonstrate the developed materials in suitable large-scale applications
Required profile
- Master's degree from a reputable university in material science, civil or chemical engineering or a related field, with relevant research experience and a strong journal publication record
- Prior experience in similar research and a strong record of publications and/or intellectual property generation is favourably considered
- Extensive knowledge of carbon-material-enhanced concrete and geopolymer materials
- Opportunity to collaborate with colleagues in the Principal Investigator's group, which works on self-healing materials, self-sensing materials, sustainable cementless materials using regional waste/by-products, 3D-printable concrete, and low-carbon concrete with carbon materials from different sources
Required skills
- Nano- and microstructure-based material tailoring, novel and sustainable concrete development, geopolymer or other green cement, mechanical testing, thermal and/or electrical conductivity testing, and material chemical and microstructural analysis
- Familiarity with relevant analytical and experimental techniques, hands-on experience and a solid theoretical background
