Research Associate – Mechanical/Electrical/Power Engineering

About the role

The Energy Research Institute at NTU is seeking a Research Associate to advance numerical modelling and optimal control of energy systems, including building energy, storage, and fire safety solutions. The role involves data collection, model development, and validation to support translational research for tropical megacities.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and integrate credible data sources, standardising formats for simulation reliability.
• Apply AI and machine‑learning techniques to accelerate numerical simulations.
• Develop and validate optimal control strategies for diverse energy systems.
• Publish journal and conference papers and contribute to patent applications.
• Provide regular progress updates to the principal investigator and team.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in mechanical, electrical or power engineering (or related field).
• Minimum 1 year experience in numerical simulation and control.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work independently under strict timelines.

Required skills

• Proficiency with modelling tools such as Matlab, Modelica, TRNSYS, FDS, OpenFOAM.
• Experience with AI, machine‑learning methods for simulation acceleration.
• Knowledge of battery energy storage systems (BESS) and thermal management (heat exchangers, heat sinks, phase‑change materials).
• Strong numeric and analytical capabilities.
