Research Associate (Plant Biology and Bioinformatics)
ntu · NTU Main Campus
Job description
About the role
The School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology (CCEB) at NTU Singapore, together with Wageningen University & Research (WUR), is part of the Singapore Indoor Farming System (SingFarm), a CREATE-NRF programme building a sustainable, data-driven food production model. The Research Associate works in a multinational team on developing high-throughput phenotyping tools to assess genotype performance under abiotic and biotic stresses in indoor vegetable farming, and to optimise yields through breeding.
Key responsibilities
- Develop high-throughput phenotyping protocols (nutrient deficiency, transpiration, biomass, produce quality) using automated transpiration measurement, side-view RGB imaging, 3D imaging and chlorophyll fluorescence imaging.
- Develop analysis tools for the large data streams of HTP phenotyping to assess stress tolerance, including AI-based image analysis and predictive modelling.
- Build prediction models that forecast product yield and quality from HTP data, for cultivation management or for selecting the best-performing genotypes.
- Set up tests of products such as CRISPR or EMS mutants from other work packages.
- Document results and contribute to reports, publications and presentations.
Required profile
- Master's degree in Plant Biology, Bioinformatics, Data Science, Statistics or Image Analysis.
- Basic understanding of plant phenotyping and analysis of large data sets, preferably with AI tools for image analysis.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
