Research Associate / Research Engineer II (Robotics and Machine Learning)

About the role

The School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at NTU seeks a Research Associate / Research Engineer II to advance robotic systems that operate under uncertainty. The role involves designing, implementing, and experimentally validating advanced algorithms for perception and manipulation.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, and benchmark algorithms in probabilistic robotics, uncertainty‑aware perception, and robust manipulation.
• Lead development, maintenance, and public release of open‑source software (ROS/ROS2 packages, Python/C++ libraries).
• Integrate software and hardware for manipulators, sensors, and actuators to build reliable experimental setups.
• Plan and execute laboratory and field experiments, evaluating perception‑action loops with multi‑modal sensor data.
• Draft invention disclosures for patents/IP and author research manuscripts for top‑tier robotics conferences and journals.
• Manage laboratory infrastructure, ensure safety compliance, and co‑guide student researchers.

Required profile

• Master's degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
• Strong programming proficiency in C++ and Python with hands‑on experience in ROS/ROS2 and Linux.
• Solid foundation or practical experience in robot perception, state estimation, computer vision, or manipulation under uncertainty.
• Excellent technical writing, proactive problem‑solving, and ability to work collaboratively in a research team.
