Research Associate – Singapore Mandarin Usage Dictionary

About the role

The School of Humanities at Nanyang Technological University seeks a full‑time Research Associate to contribute to the Singapore Mandarin Usage Dictionary project. You will work closely with the principal investigators and a multidisciplinary team to advance linguistic research and dictionary development.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct literature reviews and linguistic analyses focused on Mandarin variation.
• Perform corpus‑based research, annotation, and cross‑varietal comparison.
• Provide linguistic input for computational modelling and dictionary entry drafting.
• Coordinate annotation activities, ensure quality assurance, and maintain research documentation.
• Guide student assistants and contribute to reports, publications, and presentations.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Linguistics, Chinese Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, Corpus Linguistics, Lexicography, or a related field.
• Strong training in Chinese linguistic analysis (lexis, semantics, syntax, pragmatics, language variation).
• High proficiency in written and spoken Chinese and English.
• Experience with corpus‑based research, linguistic annotation, or dictionary compilation.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
