Research Engineer I – Trust Technologies

About the role

Nanyang Technological University’s National Centre for Research in Digital Trust (DTC) is a Trust Technology Research Centre executing a national program to position Singapore as a strong trust hub. The role focuses on developing secure, scalable backend services, managing data storage and user information, and supporting the deployment and operation of web‑based applications for digital trust platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, deploy, and maintain backend services and platform infrastructure to support research prototypes and digital trust applications.
• Collaborate with Centre researchers to translate research outputs into scalable, deployable system implementations.
• Set up and manage databases, storage systems, and backend services—including platforms such as Supabase—with appropriate security controls.
• Deploy and maintain web applications, handling authentication, authorisation, access control, and related security mechanisms.
• Support platform deployment, system integration, monitoring, maintenance, and scaling to ensure reliable and secure operation.

Required profile

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Proficiency in backend programming languages such as Java, Python, Go, C, or C++.
• Experience with Linux distributions (Ubuntu, CentOS, RHEL) and shell scripting.
• Strong background in backend system development, API development, and web‑application deployment.
• Ability to install, configure, and use SQL databases; experience with PostgreSQL, Supabase, or similar cloud‑based data services is a plus.
• Familiarity with cloud‑based or containerised environments and supporting system scalability and availability.
• Knowledge of implementing authentication, authorisation, access control, and security mechanisms for web applications and backend services.
