Research Engineer (PREPARE) - EA9

About the role

Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) is hiring a Research Engineer (Fixed Term) for its Engineering Research Division, supporting the Programme for Research in Epidemic Preparedness and Response (PREPARE). The role focuses on experimental studies and data-driven analysis of droplet and aerosol generation, characterisation and dispersion, contributing to data collection, processing, feature extraction and pattern analysis.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the research project with the Principal Investigator, Co-PI and team to meet project deliverables.
• Set up and run experiments to characterise droplet/aerosol generation and dispersion, operating measurement, imaging and data acquisition equipment.
• Clean, process and analyse experimental, imaging and sensor datasets using Python, MATLAB and/or other tools, extracting robust features.
• Apply statistical and data-driven methods to find trends, patterns and correlations, and investigate links between features and experimental conditions or physiological parameters.
• Analyse and visualise results, prepare datasets for modelling and validation, and compare findings with computational or numerical models.
• Review literature, write technical reports, publications and presentations, carry out risk assessments and liaise with vendors.
• Co-supervise Final Year Project or capstone students and liaise with internal and external stakeholders.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science or a related discipline.
• Experience with data analysis, signal/image processing, statistical analysis and/or machine learning.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, good written and verbal communication, and ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team.
• Advantageous: experience with experimental or sensor datasets, feature engineering, pattern recognition or machine learning; knowledge of fluid mechanics, aerosol/droplet behaviour or measurement techniques.
