Research Engineer – Remote Sensing & Machine Learning

About the role

We are seeking a pre‑doctoral researcher to join NTU’s School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and work on a collaborative project with NUS and NParks. The role combines data science, machine learning research and engineering to develop a model that forecasts forest growth using UAV‑derived remote sensing data.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct fieldwork and curate UAV remote‑sensing datasets from multiple forest sites (Data Scientist).
• Design and implement biodiversity classification and LiDAR canopy‑analysis algorithms (ML Researcher).
• Build and maintain the system infrastructure for serving UAV data, including data visualisation tools for end‑users (ML Engineer).
• Develop a professional data portal that allows stakeholders to upload data and view results, following industry‑standard software‑engineering practices.
• Coordinate activities between NTU, NUS and NParks to ensure project milestones are met.

Required profile

• Master’s or Honours degree in remote sensing, machine learning, data science or a related discipline.
• Relevant research or work experience in the above fields.
• Strong academic background in remote sensing, ML or data science.
• Proven software‑engineering experience (industry or equivalent).
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
