Research Fellow - Advanced Power Electronics and Energy Systems
ntu · NTU Main Campus
Job description
About the role
The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is looking for a Research Fellow to support research and development in advanced power electronics and energy systems. The role covers the design, development, control and experimental validation of high-efficiency power electronic converters, including solid-state transformers and advanced power-delivery architectures for data centres, with possible applications in renewable energy, energy storage, DC distribution and smart grids.
Key responsibilities
- Design, model, simulate and develop converter topologies and control algorithms, and build laboratory-scale prototypes and test platforms.
- Investigate high-efficiency, high-power-density architectures for data-centre power delivery, DC distribution, renewables, energy storage and grid-connected applications.
- Support solid-state transformer development, including topology, control, protection, integration and performance evaluation.
- Perform experimental testing, data acquisition and analysis of efficiency, power density, reliability and dynamic performance.
- Prepare research proposals, technical reports, publications and conference presentations, and supervise graduate students and research assistants when required.
- Collaborate with faculty, students, external collaborators and industry partners, and ensure laboratory safety.
Required profile
- PhD in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Power Engineering or a closely related field.
- Strong background in power electronic converter design, modelling, modulation and control.
- Preferred: knowledge of solid-state transformers, data-centre power delivery, wide-bandgap converters, DC distribution, or renewable energy and energy storage.
- Preferred: good publication record, experience in research proposals or industry-funded projects, and hands-on hardware prototyping and testing.
Required skills
- Simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS or PSCAD.
- Power converter hardware design, prototyping, control implementation and laboratory testing.
- Familiarity with digital control platforms, power semiconductors, magnetic components, protection systems or thermal management is advantageous.
